Snore

I’m just kind of sitting here feeling a bit on the insane side; just sitting here biding my time and waiting for something to wake me from my unique slumber . Not asleep. Not awake. Not dreaming. I think its something else; perhaps an alternate reality that I’m both living in and peering through. This whole situation makes me wonder what it’s really like to live.

My thought of the day.

Semester break (Winter ’08)

All started off well on Dec. 21st. This was the day that winter break started and I relaxed from the rigors known as the civil engineering program. I started by playing a few games on and off for the first couple of days. I was very productive at doing nothing as I imagine anyone could be. Soon game became a bore but I found and alternative in music which I found more than I ever could imagine. I expanded my collection by about half of what I started with before the break. Soon my collection will break the 600 album barrier permanently. For about three weeks I found new music non-stop and I’ve enjoyed listening to it constantly while I have nothing to do — work as well as school related.

I was going to have worked this winter break by training people for the company I used to work for. I was approached during the semester to do so and all sounded well and good but, much to my disappointment that would not turn out to be the case. In the weeks after I had quit the company had decided pack up all their things and move down to Fresno — which is where they wanted me to train people — but had neglected to tell me that they had closed the branch up here. I’m sure they had a good economic reason for this and all yet I cannot help but be furious at them for leaving everyone in this town who worked for them to find other opportunities.  As far as I know they still want me to work for them at some point but now that I know all of this I don’t know if i can stand the thought of working for a malign company such is them.

As far as my socializing went this break there were many parties and bar outings to be had and I took most of the offers up. Met a few women and realized the certain ones were better for me than others. Thought about Ex’s and how they have changed my perspective on perception of the opposite sex. I’m glad those Ex’s did what they did because now I know what I don’t want in a relationship. Unfortunately the my latest attraction leaves apprehensive whenever I see her; which leaves me in an uneasy position toward her. I intend to find out what all of that means.

Next week classes start and my loan hasn’t shown up yet which has made me somewhat nervous since last go around the check was more than just a bit late. I have enough to cover it all but just one time I think everything should just align correctly. Last semester was an extreme semester for me and I believe I’ve toned it down just a little bit even though I’m taking the same number of units as last. My real gripe about the place is that they’ve somewhat mislead me. The first semester I was assured that they offered Environmental engineering as a option but I have come to find out that this is only the case when the planets have correctly aligned and hell freezes over when this happens. They was talk of really offering the courses but it’s looking more and more like I might need to move to Humboldt to finish what I want to do.

The Wire (HBO show)

I just watched the first few episodes of the wire and they are just as good as the ones in the seasons before it. Full of twists and turns. If you haven’t heard of the wire i suggest you do yourself a favor and watch some of the episodes. Its much better that that fake, fucking, CSI bullshit. It’s kind of like if law and order had a continuous plot line between segments and it became more of a mini-series but much more kick ass. The stories are much more plausible because they definitely have a higher budget, better writers, better actors, and are allowed to do and say more!

Polictical rant #1

I was sitting around last night watching the news and reading some articles on line. As I was doing so I came across some that talked of impeachment trials. I’ve read these before and you usually go to the tune of congressman Wexler or Kucinich would like to hold hearings on the issue. I honestly believe that the current president and vice president should, and must, be impeached before they start another war — among other such things as war crimes, wire tapping, secret prisons, suspension of habeas corpus, leaking of CIA operatives names (treason), destruction of evidence (obstruction), etc.

Most people would look at that list — that just keeps growing — and know that somethings going on that needs to halted. What I was thinking about last night was the fact that the congress that we elected that happened to be just slightly more democratic that the previous and that nothing had really changed. The democrats had seemingly aligned themselves with the president for better or for worse (like a marriage). Nancy Pelosi and the senior democratic brass had taken impeachment “off the table” from the first day they were put into power.

This complete turn of events really makes no sense if you view it in a traditional terms that there are two parties vying to out do one another. My new view of this is that its more like the WWF in that they both act like they dislike each other. They introduce two marginally different bills and begin arguing over semantics of what is really the same bill to attempt to pull the wool over our eyes that one bill is really different that the other. An example of this would be what the republicans called “Hillary care” which wanted to force employers to use HMO’s with regulation. What was the republican answer? HMO’s with less regulation. This is also why I do not trust Hillary one bit given that her last attempt at “national health care” was a sham to support HMO’s.

So where am I going with all of this? What I want you to do is imagine that you were in power to remove a top official from office but in doing so there would be a significant chance that you could be implicated with fervor of such at trial. What would you do? Its not too hard to figure out as you would with out a doubt cover your ass and take impeachment of that official off the table so that you wouldn’t go down as well. That’s just the way I see it in a league of liars willing to do whatever is convenient to save their ass for the next election cycle. So next time you see them on the television talking up why the President Bush shouldn’t be impeached as if it were ridiculous to hold an elected official accountable for their actions, look at that person with a little more scrutiny that you used to. After all it is just the WWF with out people doing body slams; except in this version “we the people” die when they make mistakes. When is it going to be enough?

Oh and if you don’t believe me about all of this go do some research and quit being a lazy bastard America!

EAC Guide is back.

Filed under: guide — dbcalo @ 11:20 pm

It took me a while to work up the motivation to get around to bringing my site back but now that I have I just want everyone — who’s left… — to know that the guide is back where it rightfully should be. I’ve modified it a little bit but it still has some rough edges to it. Either way you look at it, it will work as intended and works for both .95pb5 and .99pb3 as much between the version did not change at all. There are differences such as the log layout but that seems to be it.

There is a permanent page on here that will always have it — hopefully. Ran into a scare last night as 1&1 decided to shutdown the database server without telling anyone, but other than that the site seem to be running just as it should.

Comets on Fire – Avatar

Comets on Fire - Avatar (2006)

Today I received Comets on Fire – Avatar in the mail which I had ordered earlier in the week. The album arrived earlier than expected and did not disappoint. The cover art is nicely stylized to match the style of music that cannot be described due to its constant flowing nature that causes me to describe it as erratic yet stable. The first track start out quite garage or jam band like but then transitions into a nice psychedelic quality. The feel of the album twists as it plays which gives it a unique quality that I’ve been looking for lately.

The track listing is

  1. “Dogwood Rust” – 7:48
  2. “Jaybird” – 6:08
  3. “Lucifer’s Memory” – 7:03
  4. “The Swallow’s Eye” – 6:53
  5. “Holy Teeth” – 2:59
  6. “Sour Smoke” – 8:47
  7. “Hatched Upon the Age” – 6:08

Hopefully tomorrow I will receive another album in the mail and even quite possibly Comets on Fire – Blue Cathedral — which would make this a COF weekend for me.
